Now - May 6th -- Cornhole Set Raffle for Relay for Life
Employees from Athens Parks and Recreation made a set of "Hope" cornhole boards with a purple ribbon.   The set will be given away Relay Night on May 6th.   Cost is $5.00 donation per ticket or 5 tickets for $20.00.   Tickets are available from any City of Athens Relay team member, at Athens City Hall 1806 Wilkinson Street Athens, AL or the City of Athens booth the night of Relay.

Apr 29th -- Fish Fry Benefiting the Alabama Veterans Museum
Emmanuel Baptist Church 1917 U.S. Highway 72W   Athens, AL

Athens-Limestone Visitors Center 100 North Beaty Street Athens, AL  
The Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association invites you to join them at the Athens-Limestone Visitors Center at 9:45am to choose one of four simultaneously-occurring historic walking tours offered.   Tours depart at 10:00am and should expect up to 2 hours of walking and tales.   For more information, please call: 256-232-5411

Town of Mooresville, AL
   Details for the Alabama's oldest town's historic walks are at 9:45AM and start at the historic post office on Lauderdale Street.

Apr 30th -- Cars and Bikes on the Square
Downtown Athens, AL

Apr 30th -- Marbut Bend Earth Day Walk  
Marbut Bend Nature & Trail AL-99 West Limestone    Join TVA Natural Resource Management professional Damien Simbeck at 7:30AM for a tour of this beautiful nature area just west of the Elk River Bridge on Alabama Highway 99.    The trail is handicap accessible.   Wear comfortable shoes and bring your binoculars for this free event from Tennessee Valley Authority and Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful.

Downtown Elkmont, AL
  Come join the fun at this unique festival celebrating a very Southern drink Sassafras Tea from 10:00AM-1:00PM.   A newly found photo of the post-Civil War Sulfur Creek Trestle will be unveiled and the history of the battle will be presented.   Opportunities to enjoy a wagon ride or walk to the Sulphur Creek Trestle.   View historical photos, view the 1950's Elkmont Fire truck, storytime, and of course Sassafras Tea and Sweets in the Depot. May 2nd -- Limestone County Sheriff's Rodeo Queen Pageant Ages 16-26 Deadline

Citywide - Athens, AL  
Mayor Ronnie Marks has proclaimed the week of May 2 - 6 Paint the Town Purple Week and encourages the citizens to deck out their homes and businesses in purple and share group photos and photo decorations for the use on the City of Athens' social sites and to the news media by emailing them to hhollman@athensal.us

Singing of the Squark Kicks Off April 29th

Dust of your lawn and camp chairs and get ready for the return of Singing on the Square to the Marion Street side of the Limestone County Courthouse in downtown Athens, AL this Friday, April 29th at 6:00PM.


The 2016 concert series is sponsored by Jimmy Smith Buick GMC and presented by Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association free to the public.   Most shows kick off at 6:00PM and go to 8:00PM.   Grab a to-go dinner and dine al fresco while you enjoy this year's variety of groups and music.


The 2016 schedule will be an irregular one, so grab your calendar and mark the dates and times below.

The rain location for the 2016 Singing on the Square will be at the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 511 17915 West Elm Street Athens, AL.  


The Vietnam Veterans Building is one block east of the Market Street and Elm Street intersection at the T-junction of Lucas Ferry Road.   The Vietnam Veterans Building is approximately 3.4 miles from the traffic light at Elm Street and U.S. Highway 31N.
