The hooves have finished packing the dirt on the arena grounds from the Limestone County Sheriff's Rodeo on May 21st and are now making way for the Athens-Limestone Rescue Squad's 1st Outdoor Expo.   The Athens-Limestone Rescue Squad is working to bring together a variety of vendors, suppliers and vehicles for the outdoor enthusiast to enjoy on June 3 and 4.

Whether you like to hit the water, camp in luxury, looking to outfit your ATV or pickup for the hunting season, the Limestone County Sheriff's Arena on AL-99 just past the West Elm Street intersection in Athens is your place to be.  The Outdoor Expo grounds will be open Friday from 12:00PM - 7:00PM and Saturday from 10:00AM-5:00PM.    Cost is $5.00 per car.

R & L Grilling will be on hand at the concession stand serving hot and tasty treats from the grill - so there's no need to have leave and return.

Calling all Backyard Division Cookoff Teams.... the time to register for the Elkmont Lions Club Smokin' Railroad Street Barbecue Cookoff is growing near -- May 28th to be precise.  This newly Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned cookoff, also part of the Alabama Barbecue Trail, is pitting the cooking skills of amateur Backyard Division teams against each other.  

The Elkmont Lions Club Smokin' Railroad Street Barbecue Cookoff was already known for a highly competitive fields of talent but with the addition of the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) Sanctioning, the titles are taking on new energy.

People's Choice Awards tickets offer attendees of the festival to choose the crowd favorite while
professional judges from the KCBS circuit will be raising the bar high for the Chicken, Ribs and Pulled Pork competitions.

Additional activities lined up for the crowds coming to enjoy the barbecue cook off include a Cruise-In on Gilbert Street with prizes for registrants and guide tour of Elkmont and a concert in the evening on June 10th.

June 11th has a Cornhole Tournament at the Elkmont Depot with prizes too.  There will be live music and of course, plenty of chances to enjoy fresh barbecue.

Attendees to the barbecue cookoff can enjoy shopping Antique Paper Trail, Belle Chevre and Elkmont Saturday Market too.

Program will start at 11:00 am on Monday, May 30th at the Limestone Count Event Center (114 W Pryor St, Athens). LTG David L. Mann, Commanding General USASMDC/ARSTRAT will be the guest speaker. Refreshments following the program.

May 30th --  Rogersville Firefighters Boston Butt Fundraiser 
Rogersville Volunteer Fire Department 540 Post Office Road Rogersville, AL
€‹The Rogersville Firefighters are now taking orders for Boston Butts. These will be available for pick up on May 30th from 8 AM to 10 AM at the fire station in Rogersville. The cost is $30. The 2016 concert series is sponsored by Jimmy Smith Buick GMC and presented by Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association free to the public.  Most shows kick off at 6:00PM and go to 8:00PM.  Grab a to-go dinner and dine al fresco while you enjoy this year's variety of groups and music.


The 2016 schedule will be an irregular one, so grab your calendar and mark the dates and times below.

The rain location for the 2016 Singing on the Square will be at the Vietnam Veterans Chapter 511 17915 West Elm Street Athens, AL. Â


The Vietnam Veterans Building is one block east of the Market Street and Elm Street intersection at the T-junction of Lucas Ferry Road.  The Vietnam Veterans Building is approximately 3.4 miles from the traffic light at Elm Street and U.S. Highway 31N.
