Calling all Backyard Division Cookoff Teams.... the time to register for the Elkmont Lions Club Smokin' Railroad Street Barbecue Cookoff is growing near -- May 28th to be precise.  This newly Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned cookoff, also part of the Alabama Barbecue Trail, is pitting the cooking skills of amateur Backyard Division teams against each other.  

The Elkmont Lions Club Smokin' Railroad Street Barbecue Cookoff was already known for a highly competitive fields of talent but with the addition of the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) Sanctioning, the titles are taking on new energy.

People's Choice Awards tickets offer attendees of the festival to choose the crowd favorite while
professional judges from the KCBS circuit will be raising the bar high for the Chicken, Ribs and Pulled Pork competitions.

Additional activities lined up for the crowds coming to enjoy the barbecue cook off include a Cruise-In on Gilbert Street with prizes for registrants and guide tour of Elkmont and a concert in the evening on June 10th.

June 11th has a Cornhole Tournament at the Elkmont Depot with prizes too.  There will be live music and of course, plenty of chances to enjoy fresh barbecue.

Attendees to the barbecue cookoff can enjoy shopping Antique Paper Trail, Belle Chevre and Elkmont Saturday Market too.

Join the Elkmont Lions Club for their annual fundraising Dove Hunt at Hobbs Farm.  Presale of Reserve Spots start on September 11 at 12:00PM (noon) and go until September 12 at 9:00AM.  Presale is $100.00 includes bale and 4 permits; single is $30.00 after 9:00AM.  On September 12th, permits are $20.00 and shooters have to find a spot as there will be no Reserve Posts at that point.  All permits are 3-Day Permits.

C.T. Garvin Adds Location In Elkmont, AL

C.T. Garvin is well-known in North Alabama and Southern Tennessee for its quality of goods they offer to farmers, breeders, cattlemen, home gardeners and pet owners available from its location in downtown Huntsville, AL.

This 75 year-old company, best known for milling its own feed, now has location in northern Limestone County at Interstate 65 Exit 361 at 22806 Sandlin Road at Elkmont.  The new C.T. Garvin location is open Monday through Friday from 8:00AM-5:30PM and Saturday 7:00AM-3:00PM.  During prime planting season, hours may be longer  -- so be sure to give them a call first at  256-423-1800.

The conscientious home gardener will be happy to know that C.T. Garvin's has a complete line of organic gardening items by Fox Farms, and Espoma available at both locations.  The beginner gardener will be happy to know there's a wide range of  items, plants, and amenities to make any project home easier.  Any adventurer to C.T. Garvin will find a variety of vegetable seeds and plants; fertilizers; soil conditioners; fruit trees and bushes; flowers and shrubs; top soil (bag and bulk); potting soil; Vermiculite and Perlite; herbicides and insecticides; pesticides and fungicides; gardening tools; carts; gloves; hats; shoes; boots and much more.

Livestock and pet owners can purchase supplies for their animals including feed, toys and treatments - including dewormer and flea control.  If you need something for your herd, flock or four-legged animal member, don't hesitate to ask the friendly folks at C.T.
